After more than 20 years of hosting DartMUD on personal machines at the home, office or school of one of the creators, often with little to no backup process in place, Ogma enlisted the help of Gaborn to bring DartMUD into the 21st century. This entailed not only migrating DartMUD to cloud hosting on the Digital Ocean platform, but setting up reliable, automatic backup services in order to protect DartMUD from digital catastrophe. While there is no direct affiliation with Digital Ocean, despite a few inconvenient issues, they have been great hosts for us, and we would be remiss, if we did not mention the great service they provide.

Since 2013, with Ogma's blessing, DartMUD has been running with by far its best uptime records, despite a few hiccups along the way, since its inception in 1991. We went from having no real backup solution, to having a robust backup solution that creates hourly snapshot backups that are stored for 30 days on a redundant offsite raid backup server running at Gaborn's home.
